Nikolai Gogol (1809–1852) was a Russian novelist, short story writer, and playwright of Ukrainian origin who is considered a classic of Russian literature and a pioneer of satirical grotesque and realism. He is famous for works like “The Overcoat,” Dead Souls, and the play The Government Inspector.
