About the Author

Audrey Vernick is the author of over twenty books for young readers, including Unlike Other Monsters, Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten?, First Grade Dropout, and Scarlet’s Tale, as well as Bob, Not Bob! and Dear Substitute, which she cowrote with Liz Garton Scanlon. She received a 2019 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. When she feels drippy and gross, she likes to snuggle with her dog, who is not named Bob. Matthew Cordell has illustrated many books for children including works of poetry, novels, and picture books, like Bob, Not Bob!; Leaps and Bounce; and Rooting for You! He has also created numerous picture books himself including Wolf in the Snow, which was awarded the 2018 Caldecott Medal, Evergreen; Hope; Wish; Dream; Hello, Neighbor! The Kind and Caring World of Mister Rogers; and Bear Island as well as the Cornbread & Poppy series. Matthew lives in suburban Chicago with his wife, author Julie Halpern, and their two children.
